We counted the days from the day we bought it, since we didn't know how old the caterpillar was when we bought it.
March 19th--Day 1
March 26--Day 8
The caterpillars climbed to the top of the lid and hung upside down. They didn't move at all.

After hanging upside down for a day they some how formed a chrysalis (we learned a butterfly forms a chrysalis a moth forms a cocoon) around themselves.
This is Logan's chrysalis that I am moving into its new house. I was so scared to move it.
Here is Blake's caterpillar in his chrysalis.
This is their new home.
After 11 days of our caterpillars being in their chrysalis they finally broke out of their shells! It was so exciting to see our two little butterflies.

Sadly I don't have better pictures of them. I tried to get pictures of them as we release them, but it was too difficult to release them and take pictures at the same time. Our butterflies happily flew away. After watching them grow and change over the last 21 days it was sad to see them go. Now when our boys are out playing they will often yell, "Mom I saw our butterfly!" They really don't, but it's fun for them to think about their pets.

That sounds so cool! Although, I don't know how fond I would be of having a caterpillar in my home...but after seeing your little experiment sounds like a really fun project for the kids.
That is the cutest idea.
