This week we have our Blue and Gold dinner for scouts. Blake will be joining scouts next month so all the upcoming scouts were invited. Part of the activity is for all the boys to bring a cake, the theme is insects. Blake wanted to make a snail, so I went online got some ideas and we went to work. Yesterday Blake and I baked the cake, and froze it for today. After Blake got home from school we started to decorate it since we wouldn't have time tomorrow. Blake picked out the color for the frosting.
Blake rolled out some fondant for the body of the snail.
I had a small pumpkin pan that we used for the snail shell. Blake filled it with frosting, stuck the two piece together and placed it on the body.
Blake covered cookie sticks with fondant to hold the eyes up and frosted the shell.
Blake didn't want to do the design on the shell so I guided his hands as we did the swirl.
The eyes were donut hoes dipped in white chocolate, and Blake finished his snail off with a smile. It turned out so cute and was really easy to make. The whole time Blake would say, "This is my first cake I have ever made!" We had so much fun making the cake together. I was happy that Blake was able to do so much of it without my help.
The snail was named Barry after Gary from Sponge Bob. Gary has a blue body instead of our yellow. All my kids loved the cake and would ask, "Where is Barry?"
