Let me first start by saying I have an amazing husband and sister. Without them I could not have decorated for the Blue and Gold dinner by myself. The night before Rich went to the church and hung the strings across the room and set up all the tables and chairs for me. My sister was in town for the funeral of her son, and with everything going on in her life volunteered to help me decorate the morning of my blue and gold dinner. Without her help and ideas I could not have made it look how I wanted it to.
The theme was "Fly into Cub Scouts". It looked really cute and I was happy with how it turned out. On the tables the boys made and painted model airplanes this last month, which I used as center pieces for the tables.
The boys all decorate a cake that go with the theme. Blake wanted to make a falcon, we had so much going on that I told him we need to make a simple cake.
We ended up thinking of a sky cake with paper airplanes flying above it. Blake loved making his clouds on the cake! Nothing fancy, but it was something Blake did on his own and turned out cute in the end.
My helpers Blake and Austin (my nephew) handed out bags with candy and directions to make a candy airplane.
Assembling their candy airplanes.
Like most things, even with all my planning things don't turn out as planed. The food was not on time, so my planned out schedule was out the window and we "winged" it. So instead of eating first the kids all made paper airplanes and we had our paper airplane contest. They seemed to love this.
The boys were all given something to talk about. Blake spoke on the Cub Scout uniform.
All the cakes the scouts made.
Each boy explained their cake. It was so cute listening to what they loved about their cake. Blake said he loved making his clouds.
The food finally arrived we watched a slide show and awards were handed out for the cake. Blake won "Fluffiest Clouds". It was a crazy night, but I think it was a success. Always glad it is over, but onto the next activity!
