Today we went to the La
Brea Tar Pits with people from our ward. It took us two hours to get there!!! It would have been
ok, but once we got to the museum it didn't take long before we had seen everything and were ready to go home.

There were some cool skeletons of extinct animals and we were able to go down to the tar (or as we learn oil pits) and saw bone sticking out. You have to be careful walking around the grounds outside because the oil leaks up from under the ground. The kids like seeing the oil
seeping up from the ground.

Here you try and pull up a handle to see how it feels to get stuck in the oil. It is very hard to pull up.

My favorite part was watching the
paleontologist work on bones that were discovered in the pits. You walk right up to the windows and watch them as they work. There is a little board in front of each worker and they write what they are working on. One ladies was cleaning a bone from a saber tooth tiger, another one was counting bone particles. It was interesting, but don't think we will make the trip back anytime soon.
